Museums in Lennestadt: Experience exciting events in May!

With the next May 18, 2025, the International Museum Day is just around the corner, which in Germany offers numerous actions under the motto "Discover museums". This year, an impressive number of over 7,100 museums will take part in the event, which was launched by the International Council of Museums (ICOM). The Museum Day aims to highlight the social role of the museums and encourage visitors: to encourage them to take part in many offers. Actions such as guided tours, free admission and creative hands-on activities should arouse the curiosity of people.

Nevertheless, there are different activities and programs in the individual regions, some of which are based on special local occasions. In the district of Olpe, North Rhine-Westphalia, there is also an interesting program for the month of May, which not only includes the International Museum Day, but also other cultural events in the local museums.

program highlights in the district of Olpe

One of the outstanding houses is the museum of the city of Lennestadt in Grevenbrück. On Sunday, May 4th, visitors can experience participation offers and demonstrations in the museum weaving room from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. May 18, in particular, promises an exciting day on which an open tour of the permanent exhibition takes place at 4 p.m. In addition, the Lennestadt city archive in Elspe opens its doors with guided tours at 12.30, 2 and 3:30 p.m.

Other interesting exhibitions can be found in the time window Oedingen, which represents the history and future of the place, as well as the permanent exhibition "80 years end of the war in Oedingen", which can be seen until May 25th. For those interested in mining, the Sicilia shaft mining museum in Lennestadt-Meggen offers insights into 140 years of mining history.

Special events in May

The Wendener Hütte has also prepared an extensive program. On Thursday, May 1st, the hut will act as a rest station, while the various events set highlights on Friday, May 2. A hut guide at 3 p.m., the forging in the hammer mill and the vernissage of the exhibition "In the Shadow of War. The Wendener Land 1945 to 1950" at 5 p.m. are just a few of the offers. There is also a lecture on the end of the war in 1945, given by Antonius Klein at 6 p.m.

The opening times of the museum facilities also sit down positively in the overall picture. The museum of the city of Lennestadt is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays at fixed times, while the Wenden Hütte is open on Tuesdays to Fridays. Contact can be made in advance of all participants to obtain further information.

In addition to the offers in the district of Olpe, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania also participates in the International Museum Day. Here over 50 museums have planned actions that are also aimed at the cultural interests of the citizens under the motto "Discover museums". The Marinemuseum in Stralsund in particular stands out, which shows military -historical objects and grants free admission for interested visitors. Such measures are particularly important because many museums had to struggle with considerable visitor declines in recent years.

Overall, the International Museum Day 2025 becomes an important part of the cultural institutions in Germany and offers a bridging between tradition and innovative approaches to transfer knowledge.
