Neubrandenburg success story: A cook finds home and job!

In the context of the Ukraine War, many refugees left their homes and are looking for a fresh start in Germany. One example is Samsor Abdul, who came to Germany with his wife and daughter in March 2022. The family has family roots in Neubrandenburg, where Abdul’s parents and brother live, and first had to live with them for two months until they found their own apartment.

Before his escape, Samsor Abdul worked in the catering trade, where he worked as a specialty chef and sushi master in the highly respected “Beluga” restaurant in Kiev. He was also independent and operated a grocery store that he had to sell before the start of the war to get to safety. His gastronomic experience played a crucial role in his integration into the German labor market.

Integration through education and professional offers

After his arrival in Germany, Abdul invested a lot of time in his integration. He took part in an integration course and language courses that helped him reach the B1 and B2 language levels. His motivation and support of the job center Mecklenburg Seenplatte-Süd from June 1, 2022 led to positive developments in his career choice.

Although he also searched for work in other areas and completed an internship in the car area, the hoped-for job failed to materialize. When he was given the opportunity to work in the Neubrandenburg Markethalle in the newly opened sushibar of the Globus Handelshof St. Wendel GmbH & Co. KG, he immediately recognized the chance. After a successful interview, he received an employment contract on September 16, 2024.

The job center supported him with a integration grant until November 15, 2024 to prepare him for his new role as a cook in the sushibar. Most of the training took place in the Globus Markthalle in Braunschweig. He has been working in the Neubrandenburg sushibar since December 5, 2024 and has the feeling of being well integrated.

family and social integration

Abdul feels comfortable in Germany and enjoys the time with his family. His wife has a mini job and continues to support the family. The family gang were strengthened by fleeing because the war led them back to Neubrandenburg, where they got closer again.

The story of Samsor Abdul illustrates the challenges that many refugees face, and the relief that is created by integration and language courses. During the 2015 immigration phase, similar challenges were observed when around 1.5 million people in Germany applied for asylum. The institutional adjustments that aimed to improve access to the labor market for asylum seekers have also had an effect in Abdel.

Although there are still challenges, labor market access is crucial for many refugees such as Abdul for their economic independence. Language skills and participation in integration courses have proven to be key factors in order to increase the probability of employment. The development of labor market access for refugees shows progress, but remains complex, especially for women and people with special challenges.

For Samsor Abdul, working in the sushibar is not just a job, but an important step into a new life in Germany that has brought him back a piece of security and stability.

The social and economic challenges associated with the integration of refugees are still up to date, and stories such as those of Samsor Abdul offer valuable insights into the reality of life of these people.
