New brochure for seniors: barrier -free companies in the Bergstrasse district!
In the district of Bergstrasse there is a new brochure that is supposed to make life of older people much easier. On January 30, 2025, the revision of the information brochure "Senior -friendly businesses" was presented, which listed hundreds of certified companies in the region. The initiative comes from the Kreis-Senioren-advisory board Bergstraße, the aim of which is to improve the quality of life in old age by taking specific ideas and needs. Around 500 offers are documented in the brochure that informs about retail stores, pharmacies, restaurants and numerous services.
District Administrator Christian Engelhardt pointed out the importance of independence for seniors during the presentation. The brochure documents numerous senior -friendly features such as ground -level entrances, barrier -free customer toilets and easy -to -read price tags. These criteria are crucial for the certification of companies as a "senior -friendly company". In 22 municipalities in the district, several hundred companies are now awarded this quality seal. Visual references to the certification can be found by stickers at the entrances of the companies.
diverse offers and support
The brochure is not only intended as a source of information, but also offers orientation for older people in everyday life. The offers include easily accessible medical practices, craft businesses, therapy facilities and much more. The working group "Senior -friendly businesses in the Bergstrasse district", led by Ingrid Neuendorf, has created the extensive compilation. This comprises a total of 21 pages with a wide range of information.
digital availability and participation offers
The new brochure is available in printed form in town halls and citizens' offices and available online on the Bergstrasse district. In addition, companies and organizations are offered the opportunity to take part in this project free of charge. Registrations are possible through the office of the district senior advisory board in order to further expand the list of senior-friendly businesses.
This initiative is part of a larger trend that wants to take the needs of older people more into account when planning urban planning. A current study by Arup, which deals with the design of urban spaces for the elderly, finds that mobility and thus independence for seniors are of crucial importance. The results of this study could also offer approaches to improve the quality of life of older people in cities such as in the district of Bergstrasse, where demographic development increasingly focuses on attention. Rheinmainverlag reports on the brochure, while Viernheim-online offers supplementary information on the content and benefits.
