New sexton for Hamm-Bossendorf: Further training in the church successful!

On December 29, 2024, Matthias Schütz and Sabrina Rüter successfully completed their further training to become the sexton in the diocese of Münster. They are among the 13 new cushions that are now certified and are active in their communities. Their locations are the parishes in Flaesheim, Hullern and Hamm-Bossendorf, where they had already done Küsterdienste before their further training.

The further training included theoretical and practical training, exams and exams at the Borromaeum priest seminar in Münster. Matthias Schütz, 65 years old, works 10.6 hours as a sexton in the St. Andreas community in Hullern and in the Katharinenkapelle. The 38-year-old Sabrina Rüter has been a sexton in the St. Maria Magdalena collegiate church since May 2023 and has a 6.5 hour contract. She shares her service with Gabriele Engelkamp and looks after liturgy eggs and word services.

content of the training

The training is not absolutely necessary for the kitchen service, but offers a solid basis. The topics of further training included the church calendar, liturgical colors, measuring books as well as the handling of robes and the care of liturgical devices. Matthias Schütz emphasizes that the training also conveys management aspects and made new ideas and valuable contacts with other cüste to both cüers. Practical units for flower and church jewelry rounded off the program.

The importance of the volunteers in the communities was emphasized by both cards. Matthias Schütz can look back on almost 60 years of experience in church life, while in the Katharinenkapelle in Hamm-Bossendorf the bells are still ringing by hand.

training opportunities

In addition to further training in the sexton, there are various training opportunities for volunteers. These offer an introduction to liturgical books, devices, robes and colors as well as information on high -strength and sacraments in the church district. There are a total of four independent training modules:

  • Module 1: Liturgical books - Introduction to the various liturgical books for services.
  • Module 2: Liturgical devices - overview of liturgical devices and vessels, their meaning and use as well as help for maintenance and care.
  • Module 3: Liturgical robes and liturgical colors - Information on the liturgical colors and help for cleaning and maintaining the robes.
  • Module 4: Festures and celebrations - the basics of the sacraments and the celebration of important festivals in the annual circle.

Matthias Schütz and Sabrina Rüter are now part of a growing community of trained cushions in the diocese of Münster, which are actively involved in the service of their communities.
