New coach Alois Schwartz should lead FCS to promotion!

The 1. FC Saarbrücken has signed a new coach with Alois Schwartz after Rüdiger Ziehl resigned with immediate effect. Schwartz, who had previously been without a club since December 2023, now takes over the business and is intended to lead the team to the 2nd league in the remaining four games of the season. Currently the FCS only has two points behind in third place and is therefore in the narrow race for the career opportunities.

Rüdiger Ziehl, who had been active as a trainer and as a manager since November 2022, decided to return to the manager position. Under his leadership, the FCS had one of the most successful seasons since the return to the 3rd division, but the last performance was insufficient. The team only won one victory in the last seven league games and slipped from second place to four. Ziehl will continue to be preserved in its function as a manager and continue his efforts there, such as

Alois Schwartz's return

Alois Schwartz brings experience both as a player and as a trainer, especially in the 3rd league, where he has already played 100 games. In the 2018/19 season, he led Karlsruher SC to promotion to the 2nd league, and the management of 1. FC Saarbrücken hopes that he can now set new impulses. His contract runs until 2026 and thus provides continuity in the coaching position, such as

particularly remarkable is Schwartz's personal connection to the club: his stepson Mario Müller played for the FCS for six years and was part of the squad who moved into the DFB Cup semi-final in 2020. Schwartz has been rooted in the club for a long time and already knows some players, including Sebastian Vasiliadis and Calogero Rizzuto, which should make integration into the team easier.

The goals remain high

The declared goal is to create the promotion this season. The Saarlanders are currently fourth in the 3rd league and despite the latest setbacks still have all the chances of a direct promotion zone. Manager Ziehl highlights the calm, charisma and serenity of Schwartz, who are now asked to motivate the team again after the disappointing last weeks.

The first challenge for Schwartz will be to stabilize the team and to focus on the target. The last defeats, such as the 1: 4 bankruptcy against Dynamo Dresden, show that there is a need for action here. The upcoming four games will decide whether the 1. FC Saarbrücken can still implement its ambitions this season.
