New Year's resolutions 2024: Düsseldorfer rely on health and family!
On December 31, 2024, FOM University of Applied Sciences in Düsseldorf published an extensive survey in which more than 5,000 participants were interviewed for their resolutions for the coming year. The results show that health and social relationships are the central issues for many people in Germany.
The survey showed that 40% of the respondents want to do more sports, while 38% information of wanting to avoid stress. In addition, 36% would like to strive for a healthier diet. With regard to social relationships, 40% of respondents plan to spend more time with family and friends.

However, the data also show that there are significant challenges in implementing these resolutions. According to the survey, 70% of Düsseldorfers do not adhere to their resolutions or only briefly this year. In addition, 15% of the respondents stated that they did not take good resolutions at all.
A similar analysis carried out by Prof. Dr. Oliver Gansser from the IFES Institute for Empire & Statistics at FOM University shows that 41% of those surveyed also want to avoid or reduce stress for 2024. 39% plan to spend more time for family and friends, and just as many want to do more sports. In addition, 34% strives for a healthier diet, while only 14% want to live more environmentally and climate-friendly. Fortunately, 39% of the respondents have also set themselves the goal of reducing their meat consumption or completely avoiding it.
In the nationwide study, which was determined by personal interviews with around 57,500 people, 18% of the respondents stated that they had no resolutions for the new year. Due to just under a third of the participants, giving their resolutions for 2023, two thirds said that they did not stick to their resolutions for only a few days or a few months.
