CDU plans begging zones - Greens defend themselves against the ban!

The discussion about the introduction of "betting ban zones" in Dortmund picks up speed. The CDU plans to treat this measure in the upcoming committee for civil services, public order, suggestions and symptoms. Uwe Wallrabe, a CDU council member, explains that there are increasingly complaints from restaurateurs about aggressive beggars. The situation is particularly problematic on the old market, so that a security service has already been commissioned to counteract this. According to Ruhr24 , the CDU is based on the city of Aachen, where in certain areas is prohibited.

In Aachen, a betting ban in areas such as the cathedral, the town hall and the pedestrian zone applies. Betting is also prohibited on a five-meter radius for ATMs, stops and restaurants. Interestingly, support offers for the needy in Aachen are provided at the same time in order to counter the problem of poverty in a more comprehensive way.

resistance from the Greens

The Greens in Dortmund vehemently counter the CDU's proposals. Benjamin Beckmann, a member of the Greens, emphasizes that the visibility of poverty and social emergencies is difficult to bear. They call for sustainable solutions to improve the situation for those affected and criticize the CDU's advance as a "show application" in the election campaign. The Greens also point out that there is already a betting ban in the urban area and aggressive begging is already sanctioned.

On February 11th there will be a vote on the CDU's test application. Most citizens and local politicians wonder whether such prohibition zones actually help increase the attractiveness of the city or whether they are only a short -term solvent for a multi -layered problem. The debate shows how interwoven social issues and urban order are and demands a sensitive handling of matter from the decision -makers.
