Progress in cycle path and south tangent planning in Dudenhofen!

On February 4, 2025, Rhineland-Palatinate Minister of Transport and Economic Affairs Daniela Schmitt presented progress in significant infrastructure projects in the Rhein-Palatinate district. The focus was on the bike path between Harthausen and Schwegenheim and the planned “Südtangente” in Dudenhofen. The visit to the Römerberg-Dudenhofen community was not only an opportunity to present the current state of the projects, but also to show challenges and solutions.

The Harthausen-Schwegenheim cycle path is on the right track. Minister Schmitt informed that difficulties in planning have now been solved due to a gas pipe. The exact course of this gas line was determined using a ground radar process, since the original plan documents were considered incomplete. The state company Mobility (LBM) plans to submit the planning approval documents in 2025.

Details on the South Tangent Dudenhofen

A central concern is the "Südtangente" Dudenhofen, which was designed as an important location relief. The minister explained that the project comprises a node conversion and the relocation of the L 537. The associated financing and dedication concept already stands, whereby the costs between the country and the local community are divided. Consequently

For the implementation, the LBM Speyer will take over the necessary planning elaborations and building law regulations. The passage through the town is to be handed over to the municipality. In addition, the district road 27 to B 9 is upgraded and classified as a state road.

other traffic projects and perspectives

In addition to the southern tangent and the bike path, other traffic projects in the district of Germersheim and in the Rhein-Pfalz district were also addressed during the exchange. These include planning a municipal bike path and the removal of a level crossing. As for these initiatives, the minister makes it clear that the planning and implementation of cycling projects often lasts longer than expected. This applies in particular against the background of the mobility transition, in which active forms of mobility such as cycling play a crucial role.

The Kora project, which, among other things, analyzes cycling promotion in various German cities such as Aachen and Munich, illustrates the challenges in municipal cycling planning. For this purpose, a quick check was developed to evaluate the current state of cycling measures and derive specific recommendations for action. These recommendations are based on extensive research results that also identify obstacles and best practice in cycling promotion.

In summary, it can be said that progress in the infrastructure projects in the Rhein-Palatinate district are an important step towards a better mobility structure. The cooperation between various institutions and the consideration of knowledge from existing projects are crucial for the success of these initiatives.
