District of Euskirchen: Change training market - opportunities for young talents!

In the district of Euskirchen, the current developments on the training market present themselves as complex and challenging. Markus Mörsch, Director of Papstar in Kall, recently said that the company has difficulty finding suitable employees. This can also be seen in the large number of open spots that have not yet been occupied.

Ralf Holtkötter, CEO of the Brühl Employment Agency, found at the press conference on the half -year balance sheet that the number of applicants has increased to 873. This number exceeds the existing training positions of 725. Holtkötter emphasizes that this represents an increase of 4.7 % compared to the previous year and even 25 % compared to 2023.

changes in the applicant field

The increase in applicants with Abitur or technical college entrance qualification, which is now almost a third, is particularly striking. This increases the competition for training positions, while the number of reported training positions in the Euskirchen district has dropped by 25 to 725, which corresponds to a decrease of 3.3 %. Holtkötter notes a reluctance to the companies, although the opportunities for young people to find an apprenticeship position are still good.

An interesting trend is the increase in applicants from abroad and refugees who rose from 36 to 74. A total of 418 reported positions face 564 applicants. While 120 young people have already signed a contract, 73 opt for a secondary school or an internship.

apprenticeships in the focus

The training landscape offers numerous options. For example, 51 vacancies are advertised in retail, followed by 21 in the specialist in warehouse logistics and 14 for dental assistants. There are also corresponding offers for roofers and railroaders. Richard Graf from the Chamber of Crafts Aachen reports that a third of the companies cannot fill apprenticeships.

The demographic structure of the applicant field is also remarkable: 75 % of the trainees are younger than 20 years. According to the state statistics, the number of degrees in the Euskirchen district has decreased by 0.5 %, while the structures on the training market remain dynamic.

Finally, Holtkötter appeals to young people not to delay their decisions in order to actively use the opportunities offering. The IHK reports 126 signed contracts, but 11 less than in the previous year. A challenge that gains importance for both prospective trainees and companies.

Further details and current figures on the training market can be found on the website of the Federal Statistical Office Destatis.de.
