NRW police start Europe-wide speed controls!

From April 7, 2025, the police in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) will take part in a Europe-wide pace control campaign, which is part of the "Roadpol Operation Speed". This initiative was launched by Roadpol.eu and takes place in numerous European countries. The control campaign lasts until April 13, 2025 and sets the goal of reducing speed overruns and improving the general behavior of drivers.

Each of the 47 district police authorities in North Rhine -Westphalia has the option of deciding at their own discretion to what extent they want to take part in this campaign. The police headquarters in Aachen has already announced that controls should be carried out on roads and accident scoring points known as racers. This is part of a larger plan to increase traffic safety in the region.

coordinated measures for more traffic safety

The "Operation Speed" is not the only action by Roadpol that is committed to reducing the racing dead in Europe. A comprehensive calendar for traffic safety operations for 2025 is currently being planned. In addition to speed controls, the focus is also on the straps, the control of driving inaccuracy by alcohol and drugs as well as distractions when driving.

To support these measures, a total of five different operations are carried out in 2025, including special controls for commercial vehicles. These are intended to ensure that legal regulations are observed and the safety of all road users is guaranteed.

  • Truck & Bus Operations: 17.-23. February, 5-11. May, 17.-23. November
  • Operation Seatbelt: 10.-16. March
  • Operation Alcohol & Drugs: 16.-22. June, 15-21. December
  • Operation Focus on the Road: 6.-12. October
  • Operation Safe Holiday: July and August

A 24-hour speed marathon is planned for April 9, 2025, in which the speed monitoring is intensified. These actions are part of a community effort to increase traffic safety and raise public awareness.

engagement of the federal government and forecast

The Interior Ministry in Düsseldorf also confirmed the participation in the relevant campaign in August 2025, which will take place during the NRW summer vacation. The support of organizations such as the ADAC North Rhine, which supports targeted controls, shows that there is a strong commitment to traffic safety in the region.

All of these measures are in line with the goals of EU transport policy that has existed for over 30 years. According to information from Europarl.eu , the creation of a sustainable traffic sector is a central concern of the EU, which also includes reducing the greenhouse gas emissions. These traffic strategies, combined with national control campaigns, should help to improve security on the streets across Europe.

The coming weeks promise an intensive phase of traffic controls, which serves both the safety of road users and is a clear call to all drivers.
