Sternsinger set signs: 50,000 euros collected for children's rights!
On January 27, 2025, it was a very special day for around 300 star singers of the pastoral network Olpe-Drolshagen. Despite adverse weather conditions, the children moved from house to house to bring the New Year's blessing and to support the proven Sternsinger project. A special highlight of the event was a thanksgiving that was designed with great interactivity. Parents and children actively participated and created a joint atmosphere.
After the prayer, the star singers were invited to a cinema, where they were watching the latest film of the "three question marks" and spoiled with popcorn and cold drinks. This special event underlined the leading word of the current campaign: "Create your voice! - Stern singing for children's rights".
children's rights in focus
The Sternsinger campaign, which is borne by the Catholic Church and the Federation of German Catholic Youth (BDKJ) Aachen, is the goal of emphasizing the significant role of children's rights for girls and boys worldwide. According to municipal officer Britta Enders, an impressive 50,000 euros in donations were acquired this year. The Initiative has existed since 1959 and has collected around 1.36 billion euros to date that are used for various projects in Africa, Latin America, Asia, Oceania and Eastern Europe.
The high -rise highlights of the Sternsinger show the global focus: 250 million children, especially girls, cannot go to school. In addition, 160 million children, many under exploitial conditions, have to work. This year, the situation is particularly important in two regions - Turkana in Kenya and Colombia.
projects in Turkana and Colombia
The Turkana region, Kenya, is badly affected by weather extremes, which leads to a lack of food. Children have little access to schools or medical care here. A local partner organization is actively committed to health, nutrition and education for children's rights. Schools are operated to enable the children to have fundamental education.
In Colombia, project partners are also committed to the rights of children. The children often experience violence and neglect. Here, programs for peace education and participation as well as therapies are available to offer the children a safe environment and support. The Sternsinger campaign 2025 encourages children and adolescents to actively work for respect, protection and implementation of their rights and shows how they can contribute to strengthening children's rights worldwide.
As already mentioned, the entire initiative is enabled through financial benefits and donations to promote diverse projects in areas such as education, health, social integration and emergency aid. The United Nations Child Rights Convention, which has been in force for 35 years, forms the basis on which the rights of children are recognized worldwide.
