Farmers in conversation: Hope for new perspectives for agriculture
On January 10, 2025, around 100 farmers met on the DREPPER farm in Sümmen, exactly one year after the important peasant protests. The event was initiated by the CDU member of the Bundestag Paul Ziemiak, who was also an active member of the demo. As part of his Bundestag election campaign, Ziemiak sought the exchange with the farmers from his constituency to hear and record their concerns directly.
NRW Agriculture Minister Silvia Gorißen and other regional politicians, such as the MP Matthias Eggers and Thorsten Schick, were also present. Ulrich Brinckmann, district chairman of the Westphalian-Lippische Agricultural Association, emphasized that every farmer feeds an average of 147 people and expressed his concern that the past three years had to be regarded as lost for agriculture. He made it clear that agriculture was not the problem but the solution, and criticized the dwindling trust of farmers in politics in Berlin.
perspectives for agriculture
Minister Gorißen admitted that the CDU did not always act properly. It called for increased use for agriculture in North Rhine-Westphalia. Important topics such as reducing bureaucracy, shortage of skilled workers, high wage costs and the taxation of AGRA diesel were discussed. In particular, the insufficient implementation of the 200-point paper for reducing bureaucracy by the federal government was critically highlighted.
Another central concern was to deal with the Wolfpopulation. Gorißen called for a return of the wolf from "strictly protected species" to "protected species" in order to defuse the conflict between interference with animal husbandry and nature conservation. In addition, she expressed concern about the impending blue -tongue disease and appealed to pet owners to have their animals vaccinated against it.
disappointment about political commitments
In retrospect in a look back at the protests, Dirk Koslowski, Board of Directors, made a connection (LSV) that the promotions of farmers had little. Despite promised support from politicians, these often only remained lip service. Koslowski sharply criticized the politicians and explained that the change in agriculture needs more than just promise. Land and Forst reports that he emphasized the dissatisfaction and the need for an active struggle for the courtyards and the future of the next generations.Olaf Bandt, chairman of the federal government, added that the current and previous government work was insufficient in order to offer a clear perspective for the transformation of agriculture. Bandt called for specific measures to implement the results of the Borchert Commission and the Future Commission Agriculture. These included animal welfare and reducing pesticides in order to meet the ecological challenges and species death.
In conclusion, Paul Ziemiak put the need for perspective and reliability for farmers in the foreground and announced that it would continue to campaign for their livelihood and the costs of agriculture. The concerns about the future of agriculture have not decreased in recent years, and many voices are demanding a rethink and sustainable approaches.Details | |
