Vandalism drives city into the night closing of the toilets!
The Löhner company Cosmed has continuous growth despite the tense economic situation. Managing Director Jens Maschmeier, who has been at the head of the company since 2008, reports of a strongly grown workforce of 270 employees. The company recently invested in a new hall to implement planned extensions in Löhne. Products of the company, including components for Brita water filters and Nivea shaving foam, are already being sold worldwide.
In the region, however, other areas with persistent challenges, especially the public toilets that had to be closed again. The toilets at the train station in Bünde were closed due to continuing vandalism. After a repair in the summer of 2024, this suffered damage again, which made temporary closures necessary. An electrical door opener has been violently removed, and access to the facilities is therefore more difficult. Complaints about heavily smeared and scratched doors led to covers with blue foils.
vandalism causes high damage
The problem of vandalism in public toilets is not only limited to frets. Other locations have also suffered similar fates. In several cities, reports East Hesse News, the toilets in the NVV pavilion as well as on Breitenstraße, Vitalisstraße and between Linggplatz and Abbey district have been closed at night due to increased vandalism. This decision was made due to increasing incidents that resulted in a variety of damage to the facilities.
The most common vandalism files include:
- toilets and sinks that are deliberately clogged.
- Demped furnishings are pressed into the toilets.
- walls, floors and doors are contaminated with organic remains and toilet paper.
- door handles are glued and regular toilet paper and donors are stolen.
The persistent problems not only led to an increased cleaning requirement, but also at a five -digit amount. External pipe cleaning companies have to be consulted frequently, and building maintenance costs for these public toilets have already exceeded the annual limit in the middle of the year.
misleading signage and emergency care
In parallel to these developments, a citizens' initiative in the region is also active that draws attention to critical signage for the closed hospital in Rahden. Since January 1, 2025, this hospital no longer has a supply order and is managed by Mühlenkreiskliniken (MKK) as a location with zero beds. The initiative fears that the misleading signage could result in dangerous time losses in an emergency. The current developments are in the context of a sometimes worrying security situation in the region. In another message, a case of rape has caused a sensation when Katharina W. from Bielefeld was able to take responsibility for the perpetrator thanks to an advertisement -independent evidence. The secured evidence led to his conviction three years later. In NRW it is also planned that the costs for trace insurance will be borne by the health insurance companies in the future.
In the Herford and Minden-Lübbecke region, it is currently cloudy with temperatures between 0 and 6 ° C. In the evening it is covered and it should be clear at night, with minimal temperatures around freezing. The population also has the option of now receiving the news of the NW Herford and NW Minden-Lübbecke via WhatsApp.
