Train traffic in North Rhine-Westphalia: Massive restrictions from 2025!

Deutsche Bahn has announced that the number of ICE contents in Hamm and Bielefeld reduce due to construction sites and necessary adjustments in the timetable. These changes that come into force to change the timetable in December 2024 lead to the fact that every fourth stop in Hamm falls out from December 2024. From summer 2025, every second stop should be canceled, and the regulation is scheduled until the end of 2025. According to the construction site portal of the railway, the stop in Hamm, for example, will be omitted every two hours on ICE trains from Berlin towards Düsseldorf, while the hourly hold will remain in the direction of Berlin.

From June 7th to December 13th, 2025, the stop in Hamm will also be omitted in both directions between Düsseldorf and Berlin every two hours. In addition, IC trains end in the direction of Dresden between June 7 and August 8, 2025 in Bielefeld. A railway spokesman confirmed the restrictions that affect Hamm and Bielefeld in particular, and emphasized that delays should be balanced due to less stops. Long -term construction work on a bridge in Herford and extensive work in Wunstorf near Hanover are planned, which will further influence the train connections.

Additional route and effects on train traffic

In addition to the changes mentioned, rail drivers in North Rhine-Westphalia must also expect restrictions on the route between Hamm and Hagen. This route will be closed from October 19 to December 14, 2024, which is due to construction work in connection with the expansion of the A1 on the Dortmund/Unna cross. The Deutsche Bahn carries out works on track and noise protection systems as well as railway overpasses that will affect both the local and long-distance transport.

In long -distance transport, connections between Cologne, Wuppertal and Hagen are out. The reduced range of IC and ICE trains will be noticeable in Wuppertal and Hagen, with some long-distance traffic stops in Schwerte and Unna also eliminated. For the ICE line Cologne-Wuppertal-Hannover-Berlin, this means that trains only run between Hamm and Berlin, while holding in Cologne, Wuppertal and Hagen. In addition, the IC line Frankfurt-Siegen-Hamm-Münster will be diversions and additional holding in Dortmund.

The restrictions in regional transport, which start from October 18 at 8:30 p.m. and end on December 17th at 2 p.m., affect the regional express lines RE7 and RE13 as well as the RB53 and RB59, for replacement traffic.
