BBL season 2024/25: Dramatic twists and surprises in the league!
The ProA season 2023/24 of the Barmer 2nd Basketball Bundesliga began on January 2, 2023 and was characterized by numerous exciting games and remarkable achievements. The Gladiators Trier opened the season with an impressive winning streak of 12 games, which ended in mid -February. But not only Trier convinced, but also the teams from Kirchheim, Gießen and Hagen had a significant influence on what is happening in the league with their successful series.
Especially in the relegation battle there were surprising turns. For example, Bochum defeated Kirchheim, while Quakenbrück won an important victory against Dresden. Paderborn was able to prevail against Bayreuth in the duel. While the main round was pursued intensively in March and April, Trier prevailed with a clear lead. Hagen and Gießen rank past Frankfurt, and the PS Karlsruhe Lions secured seventh place.

relegation was a success for the Artland Dragons, which they celebrated with an away win at the Skyliners. In contrast, VfL Sparkassenstars Bochum and Gartenzaun24 Baskets Paderborn had to accept the relegation, the latter in the prob. The playoffs began in May with the quarter -finals, in which Trier defeated the University of Baskets Münster 3-0. The Skyliners won 3-1 against Jena, while Phoenix Hagen and the Bozic Estriche Knights Kirchheim won the decision in the decisive game in a competitive series. PS Karlsruhe Lions also defeated Gießen 3: 1.
In the semi -finals, the Skyliners prevailed against Trier, while the Lions won 3-1 against Hagen. In June, the PS Karlsruhe Lions crowned their season by winning the championship against the Skyliners with two clear victories. While the teams were working on optimizing their squads for the 2024/25 season in July and August, Science City Jena signed several former BBL players. Aiden Warnholtz moved from Frankfurt to Gießen.
The first round of the BBL Cup took place in September, in which the Skyliners defeated Trier and Crailsheim excluded the Rostock Seawolves from the tournament. The 2024/25 season started with all 18 teams, with the University of Baskets Münster and VfL Sparkassenstars Bochum surprised with strong starts. Science City Jena led the table up to this point, while Nuremberg and the Art Giants remained victorious until mid -November. Rasta Vechta II celebrated the first win of the season in December. The league was more balanced by the success of the lower teams, and the tension remains high for the coming season, while questions about the further course of the season remain unanswered.
