New train lines improve local transport: Krefeld and Neuss in time!
On March 21, 2025, a comprehensive new development in rail passenger traffic (SPNV) will be visible: The transport association Rhein-Ruhr (VRR) has presented its new offer, which is particularly concentrated on the Geldern and Kempen region. The VRR plans the introduction of a new Bahnlijnie that is intended to expand and improve the existing transport network.
The regional railway line RB 37, also called Niers-Erft-Bahn, has been in operation since December 2023 and runs every hour between Krefeld and Neuss on weekdays. The railway line of the planned expansion is due to Geldern, which is planned as part of the “VRR target network 2040”. The VRR also tackled the creation of another important connection, the regional express line RE 41, which has been wrong between Haltern am See and Bochum since the beginning of the year.
Details on the new train lines
The new regional express line RE 41 offers passengers a direct connection via Recklinghausen, which shortens the journey time to about 30 minutes. This line is operated every day every hour, with the DB Regio Modern Flirt 3xl vehicles with a total of 180 seats. In order to cushion the effects of construction work in the Herne cross on the A43 and A42 motorways, the RE 41 also stops at the Bochum West and Bochum Hamme stop until April 19, 2024.
The RB 37 connects Krefeld Hbf via Krefeld-Oppum and Meerbusch-Osterath with Neuss Hbf and thus contributes to improving the traffic connection in the region. During the week, the RB 37 also runs every hour and ensures a half -hourly cycle by combining the RE 7 line. Passengers also have the option of switching to RE 6 (RRX) in Neuss's main station, which strengthens the connection between Cologne and Krefeld. These train connections are provided by TRI Train Rental GmbH, which uses older passenger cars with space for 200 seats.
integration of environmentally friendly mobility concepts
The VRR is pursuing an integrative approach to the further development of local public transport with its local transport plan (NVP) from 2017. The aim is to promote the use of bus and train, whereby environmental and climate protection as well as regional conditions are taken into account. In this context, new mobility concepts are being developed, and digital services and comprehensive passenger information are to increase the quality of the offer.
The new railway lines are not only supported by contemporary vehicles, but also by offering the needs of passengers restricted mobility, which includes ramps and hub lifts. Train attendants are available on the trains and contribute to a barrier -free trip.
In summary, it turns out that the VRR not only strives for an improvement in the region with the new RB 37 and RE 41 rail lines, but also actively contributes to strengthening rail transport. This commitment is an important step towards sustainable and attractive mobility for the future.Details | |
