Bavaria in the solarer shop: the number of balcony power plants explodes!

In Bavaria, balcony power plants are becoming increasingly popular. The number of these small solar systems doubled last year. According to the Federal Network Agency's market master data register, around 119,000 balcony power plants were in operation at the end of the year. Almost 65,000 new facilities were added in 2024 alone. These balcony power plants reach an installed output of around 100 megawatts in total. It can be expected that the numbers will still increase through late registrations.

Bayern takes second place in the number of balcony power plants nationwide, only North Rhine-Westphalia is in front of 157,000 plants. The number of balcony power plants in North Rhine-Westphalia also doubled last year. This development is primarily due to legal improvements and sunken prices for solar technology.

growth of the balcony power plants

drivers for the growth of the balcony power plants include legal regulations that oblige landlords and apartment owners to approve plug -in solar devices. This legislation was introduced last autumn and contributed to increasing acceptance of small solar systems. In addition, the sunken prices lower the entry hurdles, which enables the installation of more powerful systems.

In the all -German framework, there is a similar trend: According to the market master data register, over 780,000 small solar systems are registered in Germany, with an installed total output of almost 0.7 gigawatt. Last year alone, more than 430,000 new systems went to network operation. Forecasts indicate that the millionth balcony power plant could go online in the first half of 2025.

Carsten Körnig, General Manager of the Federal Association of Solar Economy, expresses itself hopefully about the continued solar boom in balconies and is optimistic about the current political situation, without concerns about the possible effects of the upcoming Bundestag election on energy policy.
