Bonn fights for the German U14 championship: Home advantage crucial!

On May 6, 2025, the U14 team of Telekom Baskets Bonn will take part in the decisive intermediate round for the German U14 Championship. In our own home country, the Baskets training center, the team will start again under the direction of head coach Marcel Schuh. Schuh emphasizes the advantage of the home game because the support from fans and family is a psychologically important aspect. The goal previously set to achieve the top four has top priority after leaving last season.

In the intermediate round, Bonn meets strong opponents. The encounters are scheduled as follows:

  • 09.05. - 5:00 p.m. against Berlin Tiger
  • 10.05. - 3:15 p.m. against Leverkusen
  • 11.05. - 12:15 p.m. against Alba Berlin

The tickets for all games are free, and the games can also be followed by livestream via the Baskets app and on Sporttotal.tv. The two best teams in the group qualify for the Top Four, which will take place on May 24th and 25th at the South Group's winner.

strong return against Leverkusen

The Baskets U14.1 team competed in the NCG against TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen last Sunday. Until then, Leverkusen was unbeaten and had won the first leg with a remarkable lead of 42 points. But the Bonn players showed an impressive turn and won the game with 76:65. After a weak first quarter, which ended 7:16 for Leverkusen, Bonn improved his defense and the chances of throwing, even if they could not use all the chances at first.

assistant coach Schierenbeck asked the players to reward themselves for their hard work. Despite 29 Ball losses, Bonn fought his way to 11 points behind in the second quarter. The game in the final district was particularly strong when Leverkusen got into foul problems and had three players with five fouls from the bank. Bonn took this opportunity and turned the game with a high level of intensity.

Hendrik represented a remarkable match day with 35 points, 23 rebounds and 13 fouls drawn fouls and showed a closed team performance. Gabriel's contribution of 8 points as well as the points of Marvin (13) and David (7) also underlined the team strength.

The influence of sports psychology

In this context, sports psychological support is also becoming more important. Professionalization in youth basketball has increased significantly since the establishment of the NBBL. Associations are increasingly relying on full -time trainers and sports psychologists who can give valuable impulses for player development. Sports psychologists like Moritz Hirmke von Brose Bamberg emphasize individuality in the care and the need to respond to team dynamics. The structural implementation of sports psychological methods could help young players to deal better with pressure and to develop their mental strength.

The integration of such measures into everyday associations is of central importance. More and more coaches, such as Johannes Wunder from BBC Coburg, are already using psychological techniques for coping with stress. The role of sports psychologists and the acceptance of psychological topics are essential for the good development of young athletes in basketball.

While the TELEKOM BASKETS Bonn team is doing everything they can to be successful, the influences of psychological support have the potential to sustainably improve both the individual and collective game behavior.
