Bonn becomes more child -friendly: a milestone for children's rights!
The city of Bonn is making an example of the rights of children. As part of the “Child -friendly municipality” program, the city council adopted an extensive action plan with 20 measures in November 2022 that aim to integrate the rights of children and adolescents into administrative work. Bonn is now the 50th municipality that participates in this procedure, which is supported by the German Children's Aid Work and Unicef. The initiatives should not only improve the existing offers for children, but also create sustainable child -friendly structures.
In a solemn session, the city has now been awarded the official seal "child -friendly municipality". Dominik Bär, managing director of the association "Child -friendly municipalities", praised the diversity of the measures implemented in Bonn. Mayor Katja Dörner expressed her joy about the recognition and emphasized the importance of implementing children's rights in urban politics. "The central role of the municipality is crucial for sustainable child -friendly development," said Dörner, pointing out that the voices of young people should find more hearing in the decision -making processes of the city administration in the future.
comprehensive action plan
The new action plan aims to implement the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child at the local level. The focus is on four priorities: the priority of the child's well -being, the creation of child -friendly framework, the participation of children and adolescents as well as their right to information and monitoring. Azra Zürn, the new head of school for school, social and youth, sees the seal as a order for the consistent continuation of the efforts for child and youth rights and emphasizes the importance of an active involvement of young people in the municipal decision-making processes.
The improvement of municipal offers and structures is aimed at focusing on the needs and rights of children and adolescents. Comprehensive specialist material, such as good practice instructions, guidelines and checklists, are intended to support the implementation of the measures. The information portal to support the actors in the municipalities is another step to provide materials that clearly refer to the UN Convention on the Rights of Children.
solemn seal of seals and outlook
The solemn handover of the seal is planned for early March 2025 in Bonn. This event not only marks an important moment for the city, but also for the numerous actors on site who stand up for the concerns of the children. The initiative aims to integrate the implementation of child rights into municipal plans and thus to ensure child -friendly development for future generations.
