In Bonn, a comprehensive project for the development of fiber optic connections is running, which is expected to be completed by January 2026. In cooperation with Westconnect GmbH, a participation of E.ON and IGNEO Infrastructure Partners, the municipal business development agency has made an agreement to provide numerous urban areas with fast internet connections. This improves access to modern digital infrastructure for many citizens and companies in Bonn.

The planned expansion area extends over large parts of the city, emergency in the northwestern and southern areas. Around 30,000 address points are to be supplied, which corresponds to about 60 percent of all households and commercial units in Bonn. A total of 106,000 households and commercial units will benefit from this strategic project. The fiber optic connection offers a speed of at least one gigabit, which is crucial for today's requirements for internet speeds.
