On March 9, 2025, the cabaret artist Hagen Rether performed in the fully occupied town hall in Verden. Already since the European refugee crisis in 2015, the debate about "climate refugees" has dominated. People who are forced to leave their homes through environmental changes such as drought, floods or the salvation of groundwater are in particular poor population groups in the global south. Research, supported by United Nations University Institute for Environment and Human Security, shows that global policies are urgently needed for migration.
