Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences: Satisfaction at record high with students!

The Bonn-Rhein-Sieg (H-BRS) University of Applied Sciences has again defended the title of the most satisfied students in North Rhine-Westphalia. According to a survey that was carried out among more than 17,000 graduates of 29 universities in NRW, the H-BRS takes first place. The respondents who completed their studies in 2020 are very satisfied with an average rating of 3.2 points on a scale from 0 (very dissatisfied) to 4 (very satisfied). These results not only reflect on the return of the number of registration to the level of before corona pandemic, but also the commitment of the lecturers and the practical relevance of the courses.

Mathis Düsterwald, a business student at the H-BRS, praised the commitment of the teachers and practical training. Marco Winzker, Vice President of the University, emphasized the positive feedback from the students, which is due to the quality of teaching and support for the teachers. This assessment is also shared by the students: Janik Hirsekorn expressed that the family atmosphere and personal support from the professors contribute to his satisfaction. Maria Formaggioni emphasized the importance of professors for the positive study experience. As a sign of the high level of satisfaction, about three quarters of the H-BRS graduates have found their first position in North Rhine-Westphalia, mainly in the Cologne, Rhein-Sieg-Kreis and Bonn.

feedback and challenges

Despite the positive feedback, there are also criticisms. Some students criticize the parking situation in the city center, which has been restricted since May 2023, as well as the internet quality on campus. Mike Stein, another student, called for more e-charging stations to meet the requirements for modern mobility. Furthermore, some students expressed that they are critical of the focus on scientific work in the master programs. Alina Becker noticed that the large number of levies was in the way of her creativity, while Lennart Gillberg considered the scientific claim to be too one -sided.

The Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences not only cut off sections in this survey, but also in previous studies, including the ISTAT study for the 2018 graduation year. Data showed that H-BRS achieved the best reviews in NRW under the universities for applied sciences (HAW). For example, the area of engineering achieved a satisfaction of 92.5%, while social sciences provide 81.1% high or very high level of satisfaction. The average value for HAW in NRW is 78.6% for engineering and 72.4% for social sciences.

scientific basis

The study on study satisfaction was carried out on behalf of the NRW Ministry of Science and is already the fifth of its kind. It contains data from 17,523 graduates of 29 NRW universities and 13,714 graduates from 41 universities from other federal states. These results are part of a nationwide research project for study evaluation and career entry in which the H-BRS has been actively involved since 2012. Especially in an overall comparison, it is striking that graduates from universities for applied sciences are tend to be more satisfied (77.8%) compared to university graduates (70.2%).

The Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences will offer a study information day on January 24, 2025, which will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the Sankt Augustin campus to provide interested insights into the various courses and to gain potential new students.
