Interactive mobile phone card: Your network is really that good!
The Federal Network Agency has published an interactive monitoring card for mobile network coverage in Germany, which enables consumers to view the radio surface coverage of mobile operators. This card shows the networks of Telefónica (O2), Telekom, Vodafone and 1 & 1 and enables a filterable display of the cover on a 100 × 100 meter grid. Users can enter specific places or addresses to immediately check the cover at a certain location, such as radiohochstift.de reported.
The card offers the possibility to filter the network coverage according to mobile phone technologies such as 2G, 4G and 5G and 5G standalone (5G SA). The latter represents the most advanced form of 5G that works without the participation of 4G. 1 & 1, the latest provider, started its network at the end of 2023, but rely on the Roaming network from Vodafone for covering. Areas in which 1 & 1 uses the Vodafone network are hatched on the map.
radio spots and expansion needs
An important feature of the interactive map is the identification of areas with expansion deficits. Show gray and white spots where there is a lack of sufficient mobile phone supply. White spots illustrate that no broadband mobile phone supply is available there and only 2G is reached. Gray spots, on the other hand, mark regions that are covered by at least one provider with mobile broadband, but are not supplied with all providers.
The data from the mobile phone network operators are checked by the radio-hole app and sample-like measurements of the Federal Network Agency. This serves to ensure a transparent and precise representation of mobile phone supply in Germany. For the planning and operation of mobile phone networks, consumers can ask directly to the respective network operators.
Development of 5G supply
Since 5G introduced in Germany in autumn 2019, the cover has improved steadily. According to the Federal Network Agency, 92% of the area of the federal area is now supplied with 5G by at least one network operator, with 90% of this area already covered with 5G SA. This information comes from an update of the interactive card, which contains data from April 2024. At the beginning of the data collection in October 2021, 5G supply was only 53% and has since increased by almost 40 percentage points, which illustrates the rapid progress in network expansion in the network expansion, such as bundesnetzagentur.de supplemented.
The mobile phone monitoring process is updated regularly and the consumer data is guaranteed by the cooperation between the four providers Deutsche Telekom, Vodafone, Telefónica Germany and 1 & 1. The Federal Network Agency evaluates the data provided for its plausibility and comparability to ensure that the information is reliable for consumers.
With this comprehensive factory card and the integrated data, the Federal Network Agency is not only a central information medium for mobile phone supply, but also actively contributes to improving the mobile phone infrastructure in Germany.
