Anniversary of the Iron Knight: 153 years of good cuisine on the Middle Rhine!
The Landgasthof "Eiserner Ritter" in Boppard-Weiler faces a special occasion: in 2025 it celebrates its 153th anniversary. The big anniversary celebration for the 150th anniversary was originally planned in 2022, but it was postponed due to the Corona pandemic. Now the operators are looking forward to the celebrations that will take place on January 18 and 19, 2025. This is not only a tribute to the long host tradition, but also a celebration of the heritage that the inn has maintained over the years. The "iron knight" is one of the oldest still existing restaurants on the Middle Rhine.
Stefan Mayer and his chef René Klütsch are the current faces of the “Iron Knight” and continue their tradition with great commitment. In the transition phase, they were actively supported by Stefan Mayer's parents, Conny and Josef Mayer, which underlines the family connection of the restaurant.
celebrations in January
The celebrations for the important anniversary start on both days at 6 p.m. The price for the event is 149 euros and includes a carefully compiled 5-course menu based on recipes from the 150-year history of the tavern. The menu was created by chef René Klütsch in collaboration with Senior Chef Josef Mayer and Miroslaw Woijciechowski.
The culinary experience is supplemented by first-class wines from local Middle Rhine-Winzern, which are presented by Stefan Mayer and his service team. These wines come from various regions of the Middle Rhine, including Leutesdorf, the Boppard Hamm as well as Oberweseler Ölsberg and Bacharacher Hahn & Wolfshöhle.
A musical framework by the Mladi Orchestra from Bonn also promises the guests joy and entertainment. Her repertoire includes pieces by Johann Strauß father and son as well as Lehár and Millöcker. The Mladi Orchestra had previously played in the "Iron Knight", and the guests always left the events.
historical context
The Upper Middle Rhine Valley, where the "iron knight" is located, has a long history as a central transport and trade route for the European wine trade. Wine was already transported across the Rhine in the Roman period to supply Roman settlements and warehouse on the Middle Rhine. Over the centuries, significant wine -growing areas have been established in the region, which formed the economic heart of the region until the 18th century. Wine was considered the "royal goods" of the Rhine trade in this trade axis, which underlines the relevance of the local viticulture.
This is not only a long -gastronomic tradition, but also the cultural and economic legacy of a region, which is still known for its excellent wine and hospitable cuisine. The Landgasthof thus remains a central point of contact for everyone who wants to experience something special on the Middle Rhine.
For the anniversary celebrations, reservations are on the phone number 0 67 42-93 000 or by email to info@eiserner-ritter.de possible.
