Art meets climate protection: The new exhibition in Bonn enthusiastically!

The Bundeskunsthalle in Bonn opens a new exhibition on May 1, 2025, which will be shown by October 26, 2025. Under the title "Interactions X Wetransform", the 2023 summer program brings a clear focus on sustainability. The Bundeskunsthalle is an institution that has repeatedly presented exhibitions on ecological topics since its opening in 1992. In the current exhibition, too, the focus is on the challenges and opportunities of sustainability, whereby the Agenda 2030 of the United Nations serves as a global mission statement.

As part of the exhibition, various projects are presented that have both aesthetic and functional character. This includes the installation "La Fabrique Terrestre" on the roof, which illustrates the resistance of native grass types at a temperature increase of 3 degrees. This installation deals with the challenges of climate change and shows how landscapes can be designed in the future. Another highlight is "Tree. One" by Ecologicstudio, a synthetic tree of microalgae that acts as a prototype for the growth of buildings.

public works of art and installations

The exhibition also includes numerous public works of art that encourage you to think in different ways. "Radioh Europa" from Action Hero is a sound installation that brings European love songs to life. A visual attraction offers “Nightfall” by Jonas Brinker, an LED wall installation, which integrates observations of fireflies in New York. In the art installation "Electronic Pets" by Yawei Chen, it is examined how people emotionally interact with digital content.

In addition, the exhibition includes installations such as the "rubble-mini golf" by Ina Weber and the table tennis work "back and forth" by Dennis Fuchs, which deals with topics such as equal opportunities and collective competition. In this context, the textile installation "worn by the wind" by Raul Walch and the meteorological installation "Wetterbirke" by Tomas Kleiner are remarkable, which attract attention through their artistic design.

sustainability as a leitmotif

A central aspect of the Bundeskunsthalle is their endeavor to promote sustainable practices. This includes not only the presentation of works of art that deals with ecological topics, but also measures to improve accessibility and participation. The Bundeskunsthalle offers tours and workshops that are specifically tailored to people with restrictions and continuously works on the creation of encounter and design rooms.

The institution pursues the goal of becoming climate -neutral by 2045 in accordance with the German Climate Protection Act. The city of Bonn also plans to become climate -neutral by 2035. By using a variety of resource -saving measures, the Bundeskunsthalle not only wants to reduce its own energy consumption, but also act as a model for other cultural institutions. The ongoing and completed measures for sustainability are continuously expanded in order to meet the requirements of the future.

The entire exhibition would like to reveal how art and sustainability can go hand in hand. All projects and works not only promote creativity, but also tolerance and sensitivity to the challenges that the world is facing today.
