The municipal building management Bonn has ambitious plans for the modernization of the gymnasium of the Margot Barnard School in Duisdorf, in the Hardtberg district. On May 8, 2025, the City Council of Bonn decided on the next performance phase of planning and started construction for spring 2026. The Margot Barnard Realschule, which was built at the end of the 1960s, houses a two-storey gymnasium that is integrated into the site and has two usage units.

The total cost of the measure is estimated at around three million euros, with a risk surcharge of 4.8% and construction costs of 6% per year. The city administration plans to check various funding opportunities to ensure the financing of the extensive measures.

The modernization of the gymnasium of the Margot Barnard school not only represents an improvement in the sporting infrastructure, but also contributes significantly to the safety of the users. The planned measures will ensure that the gymnasium will be made fit for the coming years and meets the growing requirements of a modern educational institution.
