Mülheimer Theater Days: 50 years of excitement and new pieces in competition!
The Mülheim Theater Days for Contemporary Drama are celebrating their 50th anniversary this year. On this special opportunity, the “Ash” work was nominated for the competition by the renowned Austrian playwright Elfriede Jelinek. Jelinek, who is already in the race for the coveted award for the 23rd time and has won the price four times, addresses the finiteness of life in "ash". She was inspired by the death of her husband in 2022. This special performance is presented by the Thalia Theater in Hamburg.
The festival manager Stephanie Steinberg presented the program of this year's theater days during an event in Mülheim/Ruhr. From May 10th to 31st, a total of seven new pieces for the adult competition and five for the children's competition will be listed. The pieces are evaluated in public jury sessions, with the two competitions endowed with 15,000 euros each. As a premiere, the award ceremony to last year's winner Sivan Ben Yishai for her piece "Nora or how to compost the manor house" takes place.

In addition, an additional audience award of 5,000 euros is awarded, which further increases the incentive to participate and the audience success.
The Mülheim Theater Days reserve the founding idea for premiered new pieces in the current theater scene. In 1976, for example, there were only 50 German -language world premieres, while this number rose to around 250 per season today.
The anticipation for the theater days is noticeable, and the diversity and intensity of the nominated promise is an exciting festival that will captivate the audience in Mülheim. In this tradition, the continuous presence and commitment of Elfriede Jelinek pays off, which with her works repeatedly takes up relevant social issues.
