Ryanair pulls the emergency brake: Dortmund Airport stays on the ground!
On April 1, 2025, Ryanair hired the company at Dortmund Airport. This decision represents a significant step backwards for air traffic at one of the most important locations in North Rhine-Westphalia. According to Closed, which means that Ryanair is now only present at three locations in NRW: in Weeze, Münster/Osnabrück and Cologne/Bonn. Ryanair's communication leader Marcel Pouchain Meyer explained that these cuts were struck strategically for economic reasons.
The decision to classify Dortmund as unattractive is based on the high cost structure for air traffic in Germany. In comparison, the Düsseldorf-Weze Airport offers a much slimmer cost structure. Ryanair plans to concentrate his resources where they are profitable, especially at Cologne/Bonn Airport. According to company representatives, the withdrawal from Dortmund should help to improve the conditions at the remaining locations.
