Blitzwoche in Westmünsterland: Security on the streets in focus!

On April 7, 2025, the Europe -wide Speedweek started in Westmünsterland. This initiative, which extends over a week, aims to increase traffic safety and reduce accidents due to speed violations. The police in Westmünsterland actively participate in the campaign, whereby a special focus is on the focus of accidents and the proximity to schools and daycare centers. Excessive speed is often a cause of severe and even fatal accidents in the Borken district. For this reason, increased controls are carried out in order to sensitize road users and prevent them preventively against overrun speeds.

The police not only plan increased controls, but also measures to sensitize drivers. These actions should contribute to prevention and at the same time offer a deterrent to reduce the number of accidents. The highlight of the first week of action will be on Wednesday, April 9, if the European lightning marathon is to take place. Interestingly, however, North Rhine-Westphalia does not participate in this lightning marathon.

Details about the Speedweek

The speed camera marathon is a significant part of the Speedweek, which takes place twice a year. The first lightning marathon 2025 runs from April 7th to April 13th, its second part is planned for the period from 4th to August 10th. The controls focus on accident -prone road sections, such as motorways, federal roads and in -depth roads, especially in areas with a special danger such as close schools and construction sites.
An overview of the planned control locations shows that preventive measures are carried out in many federal states. In Lower Saxony, Saxony and other federal states, the entire seven days are set up, while in some others, such as Hessen, only the locations are announced in advance.

speed Marathon 2025 in different locations

  • Bavaria: controls in cities such as Munich, Nuremberg and Würzburg.
  • Hessen: focus on Frankfurt and Gießen, especially on April 9th.
  • Baden-Württemberg: Control locations in Stuttgart, Mannheim and Karlsruhe.
  • Brandenburg: focus on Allenstrasse outside of towns.
  • Thuringia: Almost all counties are affected, with a special focus on April 9th.

Overall, all federal states except Berlin and Saarland take part in this year's spring campaign. This nationwide initiative is perceived by the traffic safety organization ADAC as a decisive contribution to increasing traffic safety.

Due to the high traffic density and the numerous accident -prone areas, the speed camera marathon is an important event. Drivers who are flashed during this week must expect fines, points in Flensburg and possibly also driving bans. The preliminary cancellations and the thematization of the flash actions should not only have a deterrent, but also contribute to the sensitization of the drivers in the sense of traffic safety.

As the current statistics on traffic safety show, regular checks and similar measures are essential to increase safety on the streets. According to Eurostat such initiatives are a decisive part of the efforts to reduce the figures of traffic accidents.
