Earth cable for power line A-Nord: Approval in NRW granted!
The Federal Network Agency has finalized a significant step in the expansion of the electricity infrastructure. On February 26, 2025, the planning approval procedure for the first section of the A-Nord management in North Rhine-Westphalia was completed. This section, with a length of around 70 kilometers, runs from the Lower Saxony/North Rhine-Westphalia border to the Borken/Wesel district border between Bocholt and Hamminkeln. The transmission system operator Amprion is responsible for the implementation of this project.
The planned line is consistently laid as an earth cable and also includes the approval of a cable cable transfer station in Ochtrup-Wester. This station will be used to monitor the DC cable route. It is noteworthy that early construction was approved in January 2025, which means that trees have already been carried out. Section NRW1 is the fifth of a total of six sections of the A-north line.
course of the A-north line
The course of section NRW1 begins in Bad Bentheim in the Grafschaft Bentheim district and moves to Ochtrup in the Steinfurt district. The exact route initially leads to the west of the Autobahn 31 to Gronau-Epe. The route then turns towards the southwest to avoid Ahaus-Wessum and Ahaus-EtNSTEIN west and east before it leads past Vreden east and crosses the Berkel. The route continues west of Südlohn to Borken, happens Borken-Burlo and Rhede and ends north of Hamminkeln-Dingden.
The publication of the planning approval decision is planned for March 10, 2025 and is made accessible on the website www.netzausbau.de/froachen1-nrw1 . The planned commissioning of the A-north management is planned for 2027. The aim of the project is to transport wind energy, especially from northern Germany, to western Germany.
further sections of the A-Nord line
In addition to section NRW1, there is already progress in other sections of the A-north line. For example, the Federal Network Agency has completed the planning approval procedure for the NRW3A section. This route extends over 60 kilometers, starting at the administrative limit of the Kleve and Wesel districts and ends at the converter station in Meerbusch-Osterath. The course of this route crosses, among other things, the Autobahn 57 and runs through various communities before it reaches the end point.
The A-north line is part of a larger infrastructure project to improve the power grid in Germany and comprises a total of six sections, all of which aim to carry out renewable energies efficiently. The entire project is regularly updated at https://www.netzausbau.de/prognose.
In summary, it can be said that the expansion of the A-north management is a major progress for the German energy transition and optimizes the connection between wind energy from the north and the consumption centers in western Germany.Details | |
