Equality at work: New opportunities for women in the Borken district!
The working group of municipal equal opportunities officers in the district of Borken continues its important series of events "Woman and Profession" in 2025. The aim of this series is to promote equality between women and men in a professional context. In view of the continuing underrepresentation of women in management positions and the still existing salary differences, the need for such an initiative is obvious. On average, women still earn less than men and often carry the double burden on work and family care. These challenges are to be addressed by targeted and free seminars that are offered both online and in presence form.
New this year is an online event calendar that is available at www.kreis-borken.de/frau-und-beruf . Registration for the seminars is necessary until the previous day and requires the specification and last name as well as email address via a simple online form. The first event will take place on Wednesday, January 22nd, at 7 p.m. and deals with the topic of "job happiness and job satisfaction". The speaker is the well -known expert Magdalena Bernhardt.
event details at a glance
The online event calendar offers a practical filter function that enables the participants to sort seminars by title or event location. In addition, a printed brochure will be available in a small edition, which includes all events of the year. Interested parties can inquire at the press office of the city of Stadtlohn, which can be reached at Markt 3, 48703 Stadtlohn, as well as by email at pressestelle@stadtlohn.de and by phone at +49 02563-87130.
The establishment of the equal opportunities officers is another step to promote equal opportunities at work. These people serve as the contact person for employees and actively contribute to the fact that the topic of equality is incorporated into decisions. The choice or appointment of an equal opportunities officer is mandatory for the federal administration and federal company, while private companies can voluntarily regulate this. Your tasks are diverse. This includes participation in personnel, organizational and social measures for equality and protection against sexual harassment.
legal foundations and challenges
The Federal Bathroom Secret Act and the Federal Equal Opportunities Act play a central role in the industry. They are intended to reduce unequal treatment and promote equality in the public service. Special protection against dismissal applies to the equal opportunities officers and they must not be disadvantaged or favored in their professional development. Nevertheless, the question of equal treatment remains complex. Discrimination can occur in both the promotion and the remuneration of women -dominated activities.
In 2022, the Gender Pay Gap was about 18 percent, which illustrates the need for actions such as the series of events. Differences between the "adjusted" and "unavoidable" wage gap also show that around three quarters of the wage gap can be explained by social structures. Women often work in poorly paid professions and less frequently in management positions, which further affects their earnings. Up to six percent of the Gender Pay Gaps can also not be explained in a structural manner, which indicates a direct disadvantage based on gender.
The series of events "Woman and Profession" in the Borken district thus represents a significant contribution to combating these challenges and offers a platform for women who want to improve their professional situation and work for equality.
