Bottrop is looking for a new mayor: A challenge for the city!

Bottrop, a city in the Ruhr area with around 120,000 inhabitants, faces a trend -setting decision: The search for a new mayor has started. As Derwesten.de , an online job advertisement was switched to the job portal "Indeed". This search takes place by the non -partisan alliance "Bottrop moved", in which the Greens, FDP and ÖDP have joined together.

The current mayor, Bernd Tischler from the SPD, has already announced that it is not a run for a new term. The new election is scheduled for September 2025 and the term is five years. The job falls into the B8 salary group, which means an initial content of around 150,000 euros annually. In addition, there can be a flat rate of expenses and secondary activities that increase the overall content to over 190,000 euros annually.

challenges for bottrop

Bottrop is in a household security concept and faces considerable financial difficulties. The city suffers from high personnel costs in an almost 2,000-person administration that is unable to solve the existing problems. Jan Henrichs, spokesman for the "Bottrop moved" group, also pointed out the impending decay of the city center. Citizens complain about long waiting times when registering new number plates, which is a sign of inefficient structures despite the high personnel expenses in the administration.

In order to give the new applicants a good starting position, the alliance has a national report under the title "Bottrop is looking for the mayor candidate (f/m/d)" in newspapers such as * ZEIT * or * FAZ *. Financing is to be made through crowdfunding. Interested parties do not necessarily have to come from Bottrop, but should be motivated to live in the city and actively work on their development.

Citizen participation as an essential component

A central aspect of the OB search is the active integration of the citizens. Bottrop citizens can report their concerns via a web platform, while public events take place in which applicants present themselves. This initiative represents a new approach for political participation, especially at a time when trust in politics is disappearing. According to citizen participation is becoming increasingly important, since the population often has the feeling that political processes are excluded. The inclusion of citizens in decision -making processes can lead to increased transparency and sustainable decisions.

The increased importance of citizen participation is also evident in Bottrop. The city plans to use an independent jury that checks the applicants and ultimately selects a candidate. This procedure could serve as a model for future elections and promote citizen acceptance. Henrichs has emphasized that an SPD candidate should not automatically be considered the subsequent mayor. This illustrates the will to change the political landscape in Bottrop and set new impulses.

The application period ends on February 22nd that potential candidates are asked to bring in their skills and ideas. Bottrop faces a critical phase in which not only a new mayor, but also new perspectives for urban development.
