On Friday, January 24, 2025, there was a devastating fire in the roof structure of an apartment building in Datteln, on Provinzialstrasse. The fire brigade quickly moved out and alerted the emergency services, which led to a major alarm. Sirens were heard throughout the city, while a dense, white cloud of smoke was visible over parts of dates. Despite the dramatic situation, the fire brigade has so far not been able to provide any information about injuries, which has already led to a certain relief in public. During the rescue measures, however, more serious problems occurred. A basement fire in a neighboring building meant that the fire brigade had to evacuate 32 people who were largely brought to safety with the help of a turntable ladder. Among the saved people was a 29-year-old woman who was injured in the kinking, as well as her 27-year-old husband, who suffered from flue gas poisoning and had to be taken to a hospital. Many other people desperately called out of the windows when dense smoke came out of the building.

The exact cause of the fire and the amount of the damage caused are currently still unclear. The affected apartment building is not habitable for the time being, and the residents were interacted otherwise.

The police blocked the Lukas crossing on the B235/corner of Provinzialstrasse to facilitate access to the fire location. In addition, odor nuisance in the area of ​​Provinzialstrasse was found, but no health risk is currently being excluded.
