Frankfurt in sports fever: Seniors master indoor championships with shine!
The German halls championships of the senior citizens recently took place in the athletics hall in Frankfurt Kalbach. These championships, which appeal to the athletes of the age groups M/W35 to M/W90, experienced a large rush on both competitions. The hall was well filled and numerous athletes showed impressive performances. Especially the athletes of the LC Adler Bottrop stake.
Silke Behne, which competed in the W50 age group, set up a new personal best of 9.51 seconds on the first day of the competition in the 60m short sprint. Despite this success, she was unable to build on her performance on the following day over 200m due to a training deficit and took 8th place in the overall ranking. Her club colleague Patrick Schwager started on Saturday evening in the M40 age group over the 1,500m route and achieved a time of 4: 43.31 minutes, which brought him tenth place.

On the second day, Patrick Schwager took over 800m and took twelfth place with a time of 2: 18.03 minutes. Unfortunately, both athletes could not undercut their personal best in these disciplines. With the end of the indoor season, preparations for the open -air season are now beginning.
The German senior championships have a long tradition that dates back to the early 1970s. According to Wikipedia it all started in 1972 with the first German senior best fights on a small scale. With every year, interest grew, which ultimately led to an official renaming to German Senior Championships I and II in 1988. This development reflects the steadily increasing commitment of older athletes in competition.
The latest championships have once again proven that senior athletes in athletics are not only active, but can also provide remarkable achievements. The championships offer a platform for athletes to measure themselves in competition and demonstrate their skills.
