Heidhof in Bottrop: Minister Gorißen praises innovative environmental education!
On March 6, Silke Gorißen, Minister of Agriculture and Consumer Protection in North Rhine-Westphalia, visited the RVR visitor center Heidhof in Bottrop-Kirchhellen. She was invited by Garrelt Duin, the regional director of the Ruhr Regional Association (RVR). The aim of the visit was to find out about the potential of the Heidhof for environmental education, nature conservation and local recreation.
The RVR and RVR Ruhr Grün have ambitions to transform the Heidhof into a modern center for environmental education and encounter. Garrelt Duin emphasized the essential role of the Heidhof as an extra -curricular place of learning and the planned modernizations that highlight the importance of environmental education for young people.
planned modernizations
Future plans provide for a comprehensive coordination within the RVR in order to design the Heidhof as a sustainable learning and meeting place. A decisive measure is the expansion of the environmental education station, which will act as the educational institution of the Münster district government.
The integration of a new exhibition and meeting area is also planned. The offer in the field of forest pedagogy is also expanded. The Heidhof should continue to remain a central point of contact for local recreation. A modernization of the kiosk, which will offer wild products in the region and firewood, is also intended to meet the high demand.nature conservation and mining
The surroundings of the Heidhof are characterized by two important European nature reserves and testifies to the history of mining. In particular, the proximity to the former ProSper Haniel colliery and the striking mining landscapes shows how nature conservation and forestry can work in the urban Ruhr area.
In addition, the Christmas lake and Pentecostsee were created, which now offer significant biotopes. These unique landscape elements underline the importance of the Heidhof within the region and the commitment to nature conservation.
The discussions about the conversion and use of the Heidhof illustrate how important it is to raise awareness of young people to topics such as climate protection and sustainable development. Gorißen highlighted the role of forests as a habitat for animals, plants and as an essential factor for the economy.
