Gasometer Oberhausen: A million visitors celebrate Planet Ocean” success!

On February 13, 2025, the Gasometer Oberhausen crossed the impressive brand of one million visitors in just eleven months. According to Oberhausen.de Waren nadine Kortüm and janek bockhoff the millionth guests. The couple who had traveled from Billerbeck wanted to visit the current exhibition "Planet Ocean". For their honors, they received a 176-page exhibition catalog, a bouquet of flowers and a voucher for an exclusive picnic on the roof of the gasometer.

The Gasometer, which is considered the highest exhibition hall in Europe, celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. At the greeting of the millionth visitor, Daniel Schranz, the mayor of Oberhausen, and Ina Scharrenbach, the Minister for Home, Local, Construction and Digitization, were present.

"Planet Ocean": An exhibition about our sea

"Planet Ocean" is the current exhibition in the gasometer, which was opened on March 15, 2024 and can still be seen until November 30, 2025. This exhibition not only deals with the fascinating nature of the oceans, but also addresses the human interventions and the resulting environmental changes. Large-format photographs, films and original exponates from the German Sea Museum, such as the Harlekin-Oktopus and the Blauhai, are presented

Visitors can also experience the interactive globe "Ocean Twin", which visualizes current knowledge about the oceans. State -of -the -art technologies are used here to document the changes in the seas and to present the challenges of marine protection. The tickets for the exhibition cost 14 euros for adults, 11 euros reduced and 33 euros for families with up to five children. Tickets are available both from the box office and in the online ticket shop.

The opening times of the exhibition are from Tuesday to Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., but only on public holidays and during the school holidays of North Rhine-Westphalia.

The exhibition "Planet Ocean" is realized by Gasometer Oberhausen GmbH in close cooperation with the German Sea Museum and receives support from various partners, including the Deutsche Postcode Lottery and the Oberhausen energy supply (EVO). The success of the exhibition contributes to the protection of our oceans and its biodiversity, which is of crucial importance in today's world.
