Budget 2025: Bruchsal invests massively in infrastructure and education!

As part of the budget meetings on February 8, 2025, important topics were discussed in the planning and construction committee of the city of Bruchsal. In this context, the CDU parliamentary group leader Bernd Möllmann expressed significant concerns about the municipal construction depot. He stated: "The current location has no future", which indicates the existing challenges and investment needs. The current location in the Tetekum industrial estate is leased and therefore not in possession of the city, which raises additional questions about long -term use. Significant investments are particularly necessary for the sewage system in order to adapt the infrastructure to the current requirements.

The discussion about the future of the construction depot is against the background of a comprehensive budget for 2025, the mayor Cornelia Petzold-Schick and Mayor Andreas Glaser presented in the local council. With a total volume of 179.3 million euros, the plan is ambitious: expenses of 174.2 million euros are compared to the expected income of 168.4 million euros, which means an increase in earnings by 10.9 million euros compared to the previous year. It should be emphasized that trade tax is the largest share of the income with around 55 million euros.

budget structure and investments

The structure of the budget shows a balanced distribution of the yields and expenses. Tax accounts for 59 percent of the income, while transfer payments and personnel expenses represent significant items in the expenditure area. A total of 23 new positions for 2025 are registered, and an increase in personnel costs by 5 million euros by 2028 is expected. In the area of daycare centers, the city has created 175 new places in the past two years, which required investments of over 20 million euros.

The city also has ambuted plans for the renovation and expansion of its infrastructural facilities. A total of 30 million euros are planned for the renovation of the Albert Schweitzer Realschule by 2029. In addition, 1.2 million euros for network replacement systems for emergency power supply and over 15 million euros for flood protection measures are provided. The expansion of the construction depot, for which 3 million euros were planned in the household, also plays an important role.

investment needs and infrastructure

The need for investments in the municipal infrastructure is a central topic that is also reflected in the broader discussion about public building investments in Germany. According to data from the Federal Statistical Office, it can be seen that the net investment of the federal government and the federal states have been negative since 2001, which indicates the high investment backlog of cities and municipalities. According to the German Institute for Urban Studies, this amounts to 147 billion euros.

The city of Bruchsal is investing in numerous projects to reduce the traffic jam. Among other things, the biotope network concept is supported annually with funds of 95,000 euros. With a total investment volume of over 13.5 million euros for the station forecourt, another important step in urban development is also taken. These investments reflect the tangible need to modernize the city's infrastructure and to offer the citizens: to offer a better quality of life inside.
