Kerbtal project: opportunities for biodiversity and the environment to be tested

In the district of Coesfeld, the Kerbtal project employs the minds. The state association of fruit and horticultural associations (LOV) demands that the district drop the plans for the project that is part of an extensive package of measures. In addition to the restoration of the notch valley, this also includes the renovation of the Counties of Burg Vischering. The LOV argues that the proportionality must remain preserved in the implementation of the project.

Stefan Hüwe-Thesker, chairman of the Lov Coesfeld, expressed concerns about the critical points in connection with the project, especially when it comes to the soil. There are concerns about possible contaminated sites that could lead to higher disposal costs. However, the circle has already stated that it would cover the disposal costs in the event of a burdened soil. After four test drilling, the circle does not assume special contaminated sites. The estimated costs for the entire restoration of the notch valley are almost two million euros, of which 20 percent are to be borne as a contribution.

environmental protection and biodiversity

The objective of the Kerbtal project is clear: habitats for animals and insects are to be created, and a temporary water is also considered. Dr. Thomas Wenning, chairman of the environmental committee, emphasizes the importance of the project for biodiversity. He sees the project as an opportunity to eliminate earlier environmental sins and enable a retreat for endangered species.

The topic was last on the agenda of the Committee on Environment, Climate Protection, Public Security and Order. There is already an opinion from a resident, but is not dealt with at the session. Wenning also does not believe that unpleasant surprises regarding contaminated sites can be expected, he referred to harmless trials.

Financial support from the BUND

The federal government has promised 80 % of the costs for the Kerbtal project. In view of the high renovation costs of almost two million euros, this financial commitment can be considered essential. The funding for contempt for contaminated sites, which also includes the examination and renovation of suspicious areas, play an important role.

According to the Owstrats funding guidelines, municipalities and districts are eligible to receive financial support for the renovation. Among other things, the regulations provide for 100% funding for oriented examinations and 60% for renovation measures. These measures aim to remove dangers for people and the environment.

The Federal Floor Protection Act (BBodSchG) defines contaminated sites as disused waste disposal systems and land with environmentally hazardous fabrics. This creates a legal framework that also serves to assess the risk of old -load suspects. The renovation of such areas includes both decontamination and security measures.

The discussion about the Kerbtal project and its financial foundations will continue to be followed carefully. The various interests of residents and environmentalists show how important a balance is between economic, ecological and social aspects.
