On January 3, 2025, there were significant problems when entering at several German airports. The airports Düsseldorf, Cologne/Bonn and Dortmund were particularly affected. The reason for the disorders was a technical failure of the information systems of the Federal Criminal Police Office.
The technical disorder led to massive delays and long queues, in some cases passengers had to wait several hours. In particular, entry from the non-Schengen area to Germany was temporarily not possible. The border controls by the federal police were also affected.

The computer problems had nationwide effects, and Frankfurt Airport was also affected. Entry was possible there at any time because alternative systems were activated, but the process was slower than usual. During the disorder, passengers were supplied with water at Düsseldorf Airport while they had to endure on the plane until the situation was clarified.
In other reports, T-Online that lasted for about four hours and above all the automated entry check concerned. There were also delays at the Berlin and Munich Airport when entering the non-Schengen area. In particular in Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden, 450 passengers were waiting in the terminal, while two machines could not be handled due to the technical problems.
