Dortmund increases property tax: So expensive living from 2025!
The Council of the City of Dortmund decided on December 12, 2024 to increase the property tax moderately from January 2025. The increase affects different types of land and aims to keep the property tax volume stable.
Property tax for residential property is increased from 610 percent to 625 percent, which corresponds to an increase of 15 percent. For land and forestry-used land, also known as property tax A, the rate of 325 percent increases to 450 percent. For non-residential plots, such as business or mixed real estate, the rate is set to 1,245 percent. This also creates the possibility of differentiating the lifting rates for residential and non-residential plots.
Details on property tax reform
The property tax reform that comes into force on January 1, 2025 is said to be new. This means that the property tax volume is not increased compared to previous years in order not to increase the housing costs for citizens unnecessarily. The new approach pursues the goal of keeping housing costs stable while the assessment bases are renewed.
In addition, the city administration proposes to maintain the previous uniform rate for property tax B. Here, a lifting rate of 795 percent is proposed, which represents an increase compared to the previous value of 610 percent. These proposals correspond to the recommendation of the Ministry of Finance NRW from September 2024. While property tax A applies to land and forestry, property tax B includes all other properties. Here, too, it is expected that the property tax volume will remain neutral without generating additional income. In its December meeting, the Council will decide on the rates of the lifting and the lifting statute, such as ruHR24.de reported.
