From May 12, 2025, the city of Dortmund will begin with the extensive redesign of the footpaths around the coveted Phoenix See. The work first focuses on the north bank between the "Residence Phoenixsee" and Kaiserberg. This project aims to make the ways for walkers more comfortable and safer. The current water -bound cover layer is replaced by concrete stone pavement. This decision is made in response to recurring user complaints and is intended to significantly improve the quality of walking. About 1,300 meters on foot on an area of ​​around 3,800 square meters are affected by this redesign. The route of the new paving will vary between 2.5 and 5 meters to meet different user needs.

The entire construction work is designed as a million project and is expected to be completed by the end of July 2025. For the users of the playground on Kaiserberg, access via the adjacent parking lot or the residential area is still available. As early as the first half of 2026, another expansion of the footpaths on the south side of the Phoenix Lake is planned, where a further 1,000 meters and 4,200 square meters of space are to be redesigned.
