Dortmund presents new design: Cityscape shines in fresh colors!
The city of Dortmund is facing a fundamental realignment of its external presentation. A new corporate design is being planned, which should not only modernize lettering and logos on documents, but also the city's website. The first steps towards this change were taken in autumn 2023. On February 13, 2025, the city Council will decide on the draft resolution to strengthen the "Dortmund brand", which plays a central role in this process. The previous corporate design, which has been in use since 2005, is no longer classified as up to date and is to be replaced by a more flexible and more adaptable design.
The proposed changes in the visual representation are particularly striking. The coat of arms and the traditional city colors (red-white) are retained as the sovereign symbols. Three flexible design elements are planned for various occasions: a simplified "do" lettering for happy opportunities, the eagle in combination with the "do" lettering for formal occasions and a standardized "city of Dortmund" inscription. As early as May 2025, these changes are to be gradually introduced in the offices, courts and institutes of the city.
financing and implementation
The financial means to implement the new corporate design comes from the budgets of the responsible departments. An adjustment in the context of ongoing projects is targeted without incurring additional costs for the departments. The required budget for 2025 and 2026 are already taken into account in the result plan of department 3. Here it is important that important design projects are prioritized in coordination with the departments.
The design and print team of the city administration also offers a comprehensive service package for design and print. The services include conception, PR consulting, layout implementation and the production of printed products such as posters, flyers and annual reports. The modern printing center on Kaiserstrasse acts as a competence center for pressure matters of the city administration and produces hundreds of different colored print products every year.
technology and services
The Roland 205 E printing machine, which has been in operation since 2009, has the capacity to print up to 13,000 sheets per hour and fulfills different formats up to a maximum pressure size of 50 x 70 cm. These technical possibilities ensure efficient production processes for the city administration.
Dortmund also offers a wide range of leisure opportunities, including numerous sports offers, green oases and cultural events. The city attracts numerous visitors from city tours to museums to stage art. The Tourist Information Dortmund is available as a contact for tourist information to offer visitors tips and help.
With the changes that have been made, the city of Dortmund will not only modernize its appearance, but also take into account the diverse culture and the possibilities of the city. The new corporate design thus represents a significant step into the future in order to better meet the dynamic challenges of a rapidly changing world.
