Dortmund gives away trees: redesign for Westerfilde starts!
On February 21, 2025, the city of Dortmund gave away trees to interested residents in Westerfilde. As part of this initiative, 20 tree slices in the Mosselde are newly greened to improve the quality of life in the area. The planting of trees is intended to increase both the shadow in the front gardens and the air quality should be increased sustainably.
For the next steps, another measure on the Rohdesdiek is already planned. The total cost of the project amounts to almost half a million euros, with impressive 80 percent of the costs covered by the federal government. This is illustrated by the city's commitment to promote green measures that benefit both the climate and the residents.

sustainability by "Baumstark's Dortmund"
In addition to the current project, Dortmund plans a large -scale fundraising campaign that runs under the title "Baumstarkes Dortmund". The aim of this campaign is to plant trees and large shrubs in the city's green and parks. The initiative is intended to help enable faster progress in urban greening than would be possible by public funds alone. Citizens are invited to honor special occasions such as weddings or birthdays with planting a tree or a corresponding donation.
Participation in this campaign is possible for a large number of actors, including private individuals, schools, companies and institutions. Donations can take place in any amount or in the symbolic value of a tree and are used exclusively for the purchase and planting of trees and ornamental shrubs. After receipt of the donation, the participants receive a certificate that documents their contribution to the preservation of the environment and nature.
These initiatives are not only a step towards more sustainable urban development, but also strengthen the sense of community among the citizens of Dortmund. According to Radio 912 , the city will make the green spaces more attractive and at the same time pursue important ecological goals.
