Jazz highlights: Fuchsthone Orchestra and JJO NRW inspire in Dortmund!
On February 10, 2025, jazz lovers look back on a number of impressive events as part of the Jazz Days Dortmund. The WDR reports that the Fuchsthone Orchestra, under the direction of Christina Fuchs and Caroline Thon, presented a remarkable concept. On November 15, 2024, the orchestra performed as part of this jazz days and presented the "Reloaded #6" program, which was created in cooperation with the Berlin media artist Claudia Schmitz.
particularly highlighted is the fascinating interplay between acoustic and visual improvisation that the orchestra focused on. Well -known songs by Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart shaped the program and ensured a special atmosphere. At the same time, the Trio Sabako, consisting of Martin Sasse, Kristin Korb and Peter Baumgärtner, inspired with their jazzy interpretations of well -known titles such as "Sweet Dreams" and "Sisters Are Doing It for Themelves".
youth jazz orchestra NRW and Tom Gaebel
Another highlight of the days was the appearance of the youth jazz orchestra North Rhine -Westphalia, which appeared on November 16, 2024 in the Immanuel cultural center in Wuppertal. Founded in 1975, it is the oldest state youth jazz orchestra in Germany. Singer Tom Gaebel, who was active as a trombonist in the JJO NRW in the 1990s, appeared with the orchestra that evening and awarded the event additional shine.
The concert recordings of these special appearances, including the Fuchsthone Orchestra of November 15, 2024 from the Domicil in Dortmund and the Sabako concert from the media center in Ratingen on December 1, 2024, were documented. The recording of the NRW youth jazz orchestra from Wuppertal will also be available to lovers of live jazz moments.
expanded educational offers in jazz
In addition to the numerous live events, the jazz scene continues to offer educational opportunities. Course offers on jazz theory are aimed at people aged 14 and over and those interested in studying in order to convey theoretical foundations of jazz music. The aim is to expand the musical understanding and prepare for entrance exams at music schools, as can be read on the website of the Oldenburg.de
The moderation of the jazz days took over Thomas Mau, while Jörg Heyd was responsible. This combination of lecturers and participants makes the Jazztage Dortmund a small but important event in the calendar of jazz.
