Kovac in focus: BVB search for a new trainer is heading!

The search for a new coach for Borussia Dortmund (BVB) is increasingly stalling. Focus reports that those responsible for the association have not yet made a final decision by Friday. Niko Kovac, who has been without a club since his release at VfL Wolfsburg in March 2024, provides conditions for his start. His collaboration at VfL ended after a 1: 3 defeat against FC Augsburg, who thrown the club back to a serious place in the table of 14.

Kovac has proven to be a successful trainer in the past. At Eintracht Frankfurt, he won the DFB Cup in 2018 after taking over the helm in 2016. His stations at FC Bayern Munich and AS Monaco testify to his experience in the Bundesliga and on international terrain. So far, however, the 53-year-old has only found a moderate interest on the part of the BVB managers for his proposal. He initially only wants to take over the coaching position until the end of the season, with the possibility of extension for a year or two.

Instead of Kovac, Sebastian Hoeneß is also traded by VfB Stuttgart as a possible successor. However, Hoeneß could only be implemented in summer. According to Sport1 there is a list of potential successors, the names like Urs Fischer (58), Sandro Wagner and Roger and Roger Schmidt includes. Kevin Großkreutz, the former BVB player, has commented on Kovac in the podcast "Quarter State of Football" and is certain that this is the favorite. "I am 95 percent sure that Kovac will be the new trainer," said Großkreutz.

The discussion about the choice of coaches takes place against the background of a strong change of coach in the Bundesliga, where sporty failures and internal quarrels often lead to quick coaching changes. Football fever reports on the most common coaching in the Bundesliga, in which Borussia Dortmund ranked fourth. Edin Terzić was last until June 2024 BVB.

The challenge for Borussia Dortmund

For BVB, the coaching question is not only a personnel matter, but also crucial for the coming season. The team is under the pressure to reappear to the top positions of the Bundesliga. Negotiations and considerations for a change of trainer are therefore not only sporty, but also emotionally of great importance for fans and club management.

In view of the current developments and the large number of possible candidates, it remains to be seen whether Kovac will actually become the new man on the sidelines or whether Borussia Dortmund opt for another solution. The coming days will be decisive for the future of the association.
