incident in the front Palatinate
The railway line was initially completely closed due to police investigations. Deutsche Bahn finally released the route at 7:30 p.m., but rail traffic in the Vorderpfalz was significantly impaired. Affected lines were Re4, S1, S2, S3 and S4. Werner Schreiner, former managing director of the Rhein-Neckar Transport Association, was also in the affected train and noticed that the majority of the passengers remained calm despite the tense situation. The technical relief organization (THW) and the fire brigade set up platforms and ladders on the doors of the train to enable safe evacuation, since the doors are about 80 centimeters above the track.
The incidents impressively show the risks and challenges that exist in rail traffic. In particular, the quick intervention of the rescue workers and the comparatively quiet reaction of passengers are crucial for coping with such emergencies.
