restrictions in Hamm
The parking garages, including the Heinrich-von-Kleist-Forum, Brüderstraße and the parking lot at the main train station, also remain closed in Hamm-but only accessible to permanent parking. Adjustments can also be expected in other areas of the Hammer Stadtwerke, while only the customer center and the swimming pools should remain open. The urban daycare centers, where the strike is noticeable, are particularly affected, even if the exact details are still unclear. The garbage disposal is suspended for the entire week, and cuts must also be accepted in the regulatory office due to the reduced workforce. Individual branches of the Sparkasse could also be closed, which are expected to receive precise information on Tuesday. Ver.di expects around 5,000 employees to take part in a central rally in Dortmund.
regional and national commitment
The warning strike on March 12, 2025 is carried out in all regions of North Rhine-Westphalia and is a sign of inadequate progress in previous negotiations. So far, employers have not made any offers, free days or time sovereignty, which ver.di prompted the massive strike campaign. The warning strikes not only fall in Hamm, but also at important traffic hubs such as the airports in Düsseldorf, Cologne/Bonn and Dortmund.
The actions in the different cities of North Rhine-Westphalia are well coordinated. In Dortmund there is a large rally from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Friedensplatz, in which an estimated 5,000 people will take part. Similar demonstrations are also on the program in other cities such as Duisburg, Essen, Mülheim or Oberhausen
The union has again made it clear that the warning strike serves as an expression of the dismissal as well as preparation for the crucial negotiations. It remains to be seen whether those responsible for cities and municipalities are willing to finally make an acceptable offer. The pressure from the population and the affected sectors grows what the tailwind union could give for the upcoming conversations.
