Borussia Düsseldorf: Championships go into the ninth round!

On March 15, 2025, Borussia Düsseldorf won the ninth German championship in a row in the 1st wheelchair Bundesliga. The team started unbeaten in the 2024/25 season and, with their impressive style of play, once again underpinned their status as the leading force in the German wheelchair table tennis. With players like Sandra Mikolaschek, Valentin Baus and Thomas Schmidberger, the team showed outstanding achievements and dominated the competition, especially the TTC Wiehl, who took second place.

The championship was decided before the last match day at which Borussia Düsseldorf competed with a comfortable lead of four points. On the crucial day, the team won 4: 1 against TT Frickenhausen. This is a successful conclusion for the season, which was completed with a total point of 28: 0. The TTC Wiehl achieved 20: 8 points, followed by TuS Winterscheid and TT Frickenhausen, both of whom had 18:10 points, the latter finished fourth due to a lower set difference.

The individual services of the players were particularly impressive. Thomas Schmidberger ended the season without defeat and can look back on 24 wins from 24 games. Valentin Baus also secured a successful campaign with 21: 3 victories in singles. In doubles, the Duo Schmidberger/Baus appeared with a perfect record of 9: 0 wins. Baus and Mikolaschek were also able to convince together with 4: 0 victories, while Schmidberger and Mikolaschek won a game. These services testify to the outstanding team chemistry and the excellent preparation of the entire team.

Thomas Schmidberger summed up the season by emphasizing that the title defense had been confidently successful. Sandra Mikolaschek was also pleased about the importance of the first championship title in 2016, which had laid the foundation for the following successes. Valentin Baus informed his joy that the team was able to master the season so successfully for the season after the Paralympics, and was confident that further titles will follow.

The organizational work behind the success also deserves recognition. Managing Director Alexander Schilling praised the team and the smooth implementation of the match day.
