Herxheim in motion: ADAC opens new bike service stations!
On April 5, 2025, the ADAC Pfalz in Herxheim opens two new bike service stations. This step takes place in cooperation with local representatives from the municipality, the district and the MSV Herxheim. The new facilities are part of an initiative to adapt to mobility change and to promote bicycle use, which gains ride nationwide. In 2024, the ADAC had already started to build bike service stations at selected locations along bike paths. Ten other stations are planned by 2025, which illustrates the increasing importance of the cycling infrastructure.
The two new locations in Herxheim are located at the fairground behind the festival hall and at the Waldstadion. The ceremonial opening took place at the fairground, where Joachim Ohmer, the chairman of the ADAC Pfalz, thanked the guests present for their support. He emphasized that the local associations such as the MSV Herxheim are responsible for the proper condition of the stations and report defects if necessary.
important infrastructure for cyclists
The need for a well -developed infrastructure for cyclists also emphasized Mayor Sven Koch. Christian Sommer, Mayor of the Herxheim community, also praised the high -quality equipment of the new stations. These facilities are equipped with robust tools, including foot air pumps, tire lifts and various keys to enable repairs on bicycles, strollers, skateboards and wheelchairs.
The stations are available around the clock and are accessible to all users, regardless of an ADAC membership. This promotes access to such services and supports the growing community of cyclists. Since the introduction of the first bike service stations in 2022 in places such as Contwig, Maikammer and Freinsheim, the network has continuously expanded. New facilities were also opened in other cities such as Pirmasens and Herxheim. A more comprehensive list of locations includes cities in Germany that are increasingly working for the provision of bike services, including Munich, Mannheim and Berlin, where the ADAC has already set up several stations.
vehicle use in change
In the context of current developments in the bicycle infrastructure in Europe, a new analysis tool from the European Cyclists' Association (ECF) shows that many major cities react to the changed mobility behavior of their citizens. During Covid-19, the expansion of bike paths accelerated. 31 of 94 largest EU cities have announced or implemented measures to improve the cycling infrastructure during this time. German cities such as Berlin, Stuttgart and Düsseldorf have also set up temporary cycling strips, while other major cities are further expanding their networks.
A total of at least 823 million euros have been provided for active mobility since the start of the recovery phase. This shows a clear tendency: the promotion of bicycle use is not only very well received in Germany, but also in other European countries. Cities such as Rome, Paris or Brussels plan considerable investments in their bicycle infrastructure, which underlines the importance and growing acceptance of bicycles as a means of transport.
The newly opened bike service stations in Herxheim are therefore a significant step in this direction, supported by the ADAC bicycle breakdown help, which has been available for members since 2022. With the new offers, another chapter in the development of a sustainable and user -friendly mobility infrastructure is opened.
