New deputy Dreyer: Mönchengladbach relies on a fresh wind!

On January 2, 2025, Sebastian Dreyer started his service as a deputy of the city of Mönchengladbach. The city council elected the 44-year-old lawyer in October 2024 with a large majority as a deputy for social affairs, youth and health. Mayor Felix Heinrichs ceremoniously presented the certificate of appointment.

Dreyer, who born in Mönchengladbach and grew up there, took over the Dörte Schall business area. Schall has been a minister of work, social issues, transformation and digitization of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate since July 2024. Dreyer successfully completed his Abitur at the Franz-Meyers-Gymnasium and studied law at the Heinrich Heine University, where he completed his legal clerkship at the Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court and completed with the second state examination. He also acquired a master's degree in social management at the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences.

since 2010 Sebastian Dreyer worked as a lawyer. In 2011 he returned to Mönchengladbach as a lawyer and deputy head of the Argalist Administration of the Freie Welfare Associations of the Free Welfare Associations in Mönchengladbach and took over the management of the Mönchengladbach consumer center in 2016. Dreyer currently headed the consumer center in Düsseldorf. His new tasks as a deputy include the areas:

  • Department of Social Affairs and Living
  • Department of Children, Youth and Family
  • Department of Health
  • Department of Altenhilfe
  • Staff offices social planning and inclusion

At the meeting of the City Council of Mönchengladbach on October 10, 2024, the decision was made about the management of Department V. There were 26 applications for the position during the selection process. A majority of councils from the SPD, the Greens and FDP spoke out as candidates for Sebastian Dreyer. Janann Safi, chairman of the SPD council group, and Dr. Boris Wolkowski and Ulla Schmitz from the Greens were positive about Dreyer's candidacy. Achim Wyen, chairman of the FDP parliamentary group, also announced his support. Dreyer is grateful for the trust and emphasizes his commitment to the city.
